The Learning Team

I will instruct you and teach you

the way you should go;

I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Psalm 32:8

Church School

Classes are provided each Sunday for children, youth and adults.  The Learning Team supports the Church School by recruiting leaders, choosing curriculum, and planning fellowship opportunities to build Christian community within each group. The weekly bulletin lists the opportunities for the day.

  • Children

Each week the children explore God’s word through selected curriculum.  They learn with stories, games and activities based on the weekly scriptures of the worship service.

  • Youth

Youth explore God’s word through curriculum chosen specifically to help them address the challenges of being a teenager today.  Classes involve active discussion.

  • Adult

There are currently three adult classes. The New Beginnings class meets upstairs in the lounge.  The New Horizons class meets in the library.  These classes use a variety of curricula that allow class members to study the Bible and relate the lessons to their daily lives. The Heidelberg class meets in the Church School Auditorium.

Nursery

A Nursery is open for children ages birth to 3 during the worship service.  During the Church School hour, educational activities that teach about God’s love are provided for children ages 1-3.

Youth Activities

There are multiple fellowship opportunities for the youth of the Church. These are decided upon and scheduled by the youth group and their leader.

Vacation Bible School

For the past two summers, Christ’s Reformed and Zion Reformed Churches have worked together to offer Vacation Bible School.  The location of VBS alternates between the two churches and participation increased from the first year to the second.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the affirmation of baptism.  With baptism, one enters the worldwide community of the Christian Church.  Through confirmation baptismal vows are affirmed.  The baptized child, having been instructed in the Christian faith, publicly confesses their faith in Jesus Christ, their Savior, and is received into active membership. Christ’s Reformed Church UCC offers a one and one-half year Confirmation program for youth in grades 7 and up.  This program addresses the topics of the Bible, Christian Beliefs, the Christian Way of Life, Civic Responsibility, and the Story of the Christian Church, et al.   The pastor(s) leads these catechetical studies, with the support of mentors and Confirmand parents.

Faith Development/ Bible Studies/ Disciples

Periodically, studies will be available for members and friends of the church.  Studies are planned for each year and are announced in the The Tidings and the Bulletin. In the past, this included the first Disciples Bible Study group at CRC.  There is interest in continuing and expanding this program.

Leadership Development

Orientation and training is planned for persons who are called upon to lead or teach in BCEM programs.  Training sessions are offered as needed and are announced in the Tidings and bulletin.

Advent and Lent Literature

The Learning Team sponsors the placement of special season literature in the pew racks and distributed them to the children’s classes.  These items included “bookmarks” with readings for each day of the season, activity books for the children, devotional books for adults and special calendars for children and their families to use throughout the season.

Family Worship

At various times throughout the year, the Learning Team works with the Worship Team to develop Family Worship services.  These services feature the participation of children or youth from a particular Church School class.

Library

The Lawrence N. Strunk Memorial Library is a resource center for books and multi-media materials that will assist one in learning more about God’s word and how that word helps one live as a Christian in today’s world.  The library is located behind the Church School Auditorium along the hall that leads to the Music Room.

Fellowship

Now and then the Learning Team supports fellowship opportunities including the ever popular “Parent’s Night Out”. These activities are announced in the Tidings and Bulletin.
